Wow it has been years since I wrote last! I'm trying to get back to a "normal" life although normal is totally different with a CHILD! Yup that's right! I had a baby February 16, 2011. Things got pretty exciting back in July 2010. First I ended up delivering a baby in the back of the ambulance which was way cool! Then I got pregnant. Garrett James was born at 31w2d on February 16, 2011. He was supposed to be due April 18. He came out screaming and doing well but spent 33 days in the NICU learning to eat and growing. He was 4lbs and 17 inches when he was born. He came home March 21, 2011 and things have been changing ever since. He definitely keeps us on our toes. He is 2.5 years old now and is all caught up except in the area of talking. This may be due to his many ear infections. He will be getting tubes at the end of August and I am hopefull that this will help with his speech. This summer has been flying by already. I have been working at the summer program nurse at my school, did a week of teaching summer school and did some curriculum writing. I have been fitting things in like going to Tennessee to see my family, a few trips to the beach, a few trips to the zoo, trips to the park, etc. too keep my little man entertained. Jesse (the hubby) has been basically living at the RIT Inn for the month of July. He goes out on Sunday and comes back Thursday. This is for Project Lead the Way training. None of us are thrilled about it. Maybe next summer we can get a camper and do some camping. As far as knitting, well that has pretty much stopped since the little guy was born. I'm always so busy with him or with keeping up the house (or that silly thing called work). I would love to get back into it. I do have a cedar chest full of yarn! Lisa and I will be going to Rhinebeck this year if it kills us! We haven't been since October 2010 when I was pregnant and ending the awful morning sickness phase. Man that sucked. I thought I'd have a lot of time to knit at the summer program this year but I was too busy (and am still too busy) doing work. Next year I will be teaching half time Middle School and half time High School. I really need to start thinking about how that is going to work out. Well that's all for now. I'm going to be leaving work soon and getting the little guy (and heading home to try to finish painting the bathroom). Note to self.....don't take on a project with a 2 year old at home when the hubs is away!

Summer vacation
Things have settled somewhat since I last wrote. I'm still loving my Saturday shift and the things that were issues are no longer issues. It is now summer vacation and I'm loving it! I've been off of school for a whole week now but it doesn't seem like that long. I've been so busy since last week. Thursday night was drill. I was able to operate the spreaders all by myself and then I cut the B-post by myself! Then Friday I went to graduation and then directly to WAVAC. I worked my first 24 and actually had a ton of fun even though I only had 3 hours of sleep. How can I not have fun when I work with Kyle? He's an awesome partner. We ran 3 calls that took close to 12 hours and it was still fun. On Sunday I left for this fantastic food conference at Cornell with the home and careers teacher Shannon. We got free hotel rooms for 2 nights and got a $250 stipend. We learned a lot of really cool culture and food things. I got home Tuesday evening around 6:30. I then had to be to WAVAC at 8am Wednesday. I worked with Bryan. I thought I was going to hate working with him because I never really liked him much but I actually didn't mind it. We did absolutely nothing until about 8:30. Then we did an MVA and on our way back we did a General Illness. I didn't get home from that shift until 2am. I did a lot of knitting on a baby blanket on that shift. Heather is having twins. I finally have 1 blanket done. Haven't been doing a lot of knitting lately so hopefully I will be able to get the second one finished before she actually has her twins. They are due in less than 2 weeks. Thursday and today have been very relaxing around here. I've been puttering around, knitting and cleaning. It's been great. Yesterday we met with the bank manager to set up a refinance on our mortgage so that we can have it paid of earlier and a much lower interest rate. Tomorrow I work at WAVAC from 8-midnight and then on Sunday we go to Liberty to celebrate the fourth with Jesse's family. I really hope the busyness doesn't keep up. I wanted to have a fairly mellow summer. No news on the baby front yet, but I'm hoping by the end of the summer there will be news. Well I guess that catches everyone up for now. I will hopefully try to keep this current but I'm not making any promises. Maybe sometime I will post pictures of knitting projects but in the mean time if you are a member of ravelry you can find me there under cweigand.

I gave a friend's daughter 2 pairs of baby socks last night. She loved them so much she wants to commission me to make some for a friend of hers! Yay! Normally I wouldn't do things on commission but they are baby socks and they go quick. I'm thinking about doing it. I was so happy to see how much she loved them. I can't wait to start making things like that for myself. Maybe someday soon...Feeling much more relaxed and at ease today. Hope the day goes by fast.

I am so ready for warmer weather. I never thought I'd say that because winter is my favorite season but I am starting to get cabin fever. I'm dying to get out and walk miles after work like I did when the weather was warmer. I was up to 4 miles a day before we went back to school. I'm feeling sluggish and I am having a hard time pulling myself out of my lazyness. I know I could go and use the treadmill at the fire house but it's just not the same. I love to be out in the fresh air seeing the sights and rockin out to my Ipod. Speaking of Ipod. It's like 2 weeks old and I lost the cord! I really hope it's somewhere at home and that I just overlooked it last night. I know you are probably thinking that I could walk outside even though it's not that warm but my asthma really does hinder that. The cold air isn't that good for my lungs. Plus with me being such a kluz I would slip and fall and walking wouldn't really do me that much good. I am feeling like none of my clothes fit because all I do is sit around on my computer, knit and eat. Especially on Saturdays when we don't get many calls. Thank God February is a short month. I'm looking forward to my sister visiting. March will stretch on forever and at the end of the month I will have to say that I'm "in my 30s" and not just plain 30. UGH.

Drama
EMS: It's all filled with drama. Always. It's almost like people are stuck in high school. I wonder why that is. I've been in EMS for about 13 years now and it's no different in any organization I've belonged too. Funny how that works. I think it has something to do with the constant wish for or rush of adrenaline. That can take over your life and lead to many problems. I'm not going to say specifically that people in EMS shouldn't date each other because that's how my husband and I have met, but you should be very cautious about it. It can end very badly. I had that happen to me in college and it's really not fun. I must be the type of person that listens really well because people have always come to me with their problems. I enjoy helping people with their issues but it can be overwhelming at times. I remember when I worked summer camp as a nurse. Talk about issues and drama! Wow! I definitely don't miss that. I hope that things work out with the people that I work with because it's gonna be crazy weird if it doesn't. I love my Saturday shift! It gives me a break from my job as a teacher. Allows me to have that adrenaline rush. Maybe I should've been a shrink. I bet I'd be good at it. Well off to another day of teaching. Maybe I will find some time to knit today.

Hello
I have decided to try to pick up my blog again. I don't even know where to start though. I still have a yarn obsession but I've been really good and not buying yarn unless it's for a specific project that I'm knitting for someone else. I didn't go to Rhinebeck this past year because of how much yarn I have. Right now I probably have at least 100 skeins/hanks/balls of sock yarn. I have enough sweater yarn to make about 6 sweaters for myself. It's crazy. I've been doing tons of baby knitting because it seems that everyone I know is having babies.
Speaking about babies, my husband and I are working on having 1 of our own. So far no luck but I'm sure it will happen when its meant to be. We've been having a whole lot of fun trying though.
I'm still working the ambulance on Saturdays and have a new fantastic partner Kyle. He's become a great friend of mine and I actually enjoy and look forward to going into work each Saturday. Hopefully I will be able to keep that up each Saturday even when I get pregnant. I will miss him if I can't.
My teaching job is good but I'm realizing that I like working on the ambulance so much more lately. I feel like I make so much more of a difference as an EMT rather than a teacher. When you sit down and figure it out it's probably not true though. Teaching can be a tough field to be in a times and it's usually not the kids that make it tough.
Well that's enough for now. I should get back to work. I have kids sitting in front of me working and I am watching the snow fall wishing I was somewhere else...
